In Ohio, this beer has been a legend for years and finally it is starting to get outside of the Columbus area. Royal is loaded with blackberries, pomegranates, and raspberries.

Tefnut (with Raspberries) was the first edition of Tefnut – which has since seen a number of variants – and was our beer of the festival at Cloudwater’s Friends & Family & Beer festival in 2019.

The brewery famously favors arcane styles over popular ones (when’s the last time you had a kottbusser ale?) Not only did two of America’s most well-known and well-loved breweries get sold—Delaware’s Dogfish Head for $300 million to Boston Beer Co.; New Belgium Brewing to a subsidiary of Japan’s Kirin Holdings—but earlier this month, Constellation Brands jettisoned Ballast Point Brewing for a fraction of the $1 billion it paid for it in 2015.

A composite style that incorporates equal parts U.K. and West Coast pale ales with a dash of German-style kolsch, Ghost beer is aromatic with biscuity malts and a whiff of grassy British hops.

The list above includes DIPAs, TIPAs, sours and stouts, but Meet Me in the City is the best straight-up IPA we tried in 2019. Massively dry-hopped with Citra Cryo and Galaxy hops – a mega hoppy, super smooth beer.

Although it’s only 4.8%, it packs bags of flavour, and could well be the little brother of Omnipollo’s Tefnut – a sesh Tefnut. The result is intense fruit flavors and a pulpy body. March.

Although its beer was previously available only on cask at the very few New York bars still pouring from beer engines, Dutchess took a giant leap forward this year and canned its first beer for wider distribution. The trend of sweet beers isn’t slowing down and 450 North continues their onslaught in this territory. The result is an intoxicating blend of campfire, caramel, and toffee flavors with an underlying earthiness reminiscent of a stroll through the woods on a bleak fall evening. As with 2018, overall beer consumption this year is projected to be down.

Style: Pilsner-style lager, 5.2% ABV (alcohol by volume)Brewery Location: Morganton, N.C.I was on a sweltering beach in South Carolina this spring when my friend Alex tossed me an icy can of this crispy little beer. This DIPA has citrus and pine notes with a sweet, bitter finish. It is a real treat – especially for coffee lovers. Putty’s 2020 edition came out within the last couple of weeks, so if you’re lucky, you might still find a can or two in the wild. I’ve wanted to try Utopias for years and was fortunate that someone recently shared their 2019 and 2017 bottles with me. A decadent, super sweet dessert beer that nails all the flavours listed on the can.

This stout is exactly as advertised. It’s worth seeking out.

Understanding more about craft beer is my goal for myself and for you.

Effervescent, crisp, pear-like fruitiness, and a slight funkiness make Bridget an amazing beer.

The result is a sweet, tart, thick beer that could satisfy any sweet tooth. It is like chocolate milk meets an IPA with a malt roast.

– Cognac, Urban Chestnut Mercator. Thornbridge - Jaipur - 5.9% £6.00 (4X330ml Can) View now at Tesco.

Another way to stay up to date is by subscribing to my Newsletter.

Unique and delicious! Wylam consistently produce amazing beers and this was our favourite from this Newcastle-based brewery in 2019; Greenbutt Skunk is an 8.4% DIPA – a full-on weedy, grassy, intensely hopped beer that is the very definition of dank. Style: Table beer, 3.5% ABVBrewery Location: Ardmore, Pa.Despite the “session beer” designation being all but passé, brewers continue to find innovative ways to pack big flavors into low-alcohol beers.

Style: Barleywine, 12.1% ABVBrewery Location: Chico, Calif.A friend of mine makes a hobby of scouring old beer and liquor stores for dusty bottles of Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot barleywine from years past, a beer that just seems to get better with age.

Style: Triple IPA, 10.2% ABVBrewery Location: Orange, Calif. When I’m feeling particularly jaded about the current state of beer, I lean on breweries like Green Cheek and its “Drink While Smiling” motto to pull me out of the fog.

What it lacks in haze, it makes up for in flavor!

With a solid malt foundation, this beer has a sweet, smooth body with just enough sour and fruit notes to give it depth and character. The beer smacks of expressive fruity and funky notes but drinks like a crusher. I tend to gravitate mostly toward their lagers, but this triple IPA, dry-hopped with Citra and Nelson Sauvin, is incredible. Fast forward to now, and New England IPAs—soft, juicy, decidedly low-to-no bitterness—dominate the hop space.

Style: Pale ale, 4.8% ABVBrewery Location: Wassaic, N.Y.It takes guts in 2019 to found an American brewery based solely around a beer style as thoroughly unfashionable as English-style cask ales, but that’s Hudson Valley’s Dutchess Ales for you.

Black IPAs are hit or miss for me but this Milkshake version is amazing. The brewery, nestled on a small working farm in rural Newcastle, takes inspiration for Sap Haus from the famed smoked lagers of Bamberg, Germany, and infuses some provincial flavor from locally sourced Maine maple syrup. This delivers everything a barrel-aged sour should with the additional of fruit and just a hint of sweetness. A bitter finish would be expected but instead it is juicy and mouthwatering. Style: Saison, 4.7% ABVBrewery Location: Livingston, N.Y.To be frank, nearly any of the two dozen or so new beers Suarez Family released from its Hudson Valley brewery this year could have made this list.

Don’t let the no nonsense name fool you. Sour, rich with oak and cherry elements.

Usually your taste buds get used to sour beers after the first few sips but not with this one, it’s effervescence tingles on the tongue – equally stunning on the final sip as it was on the first.

Crowlers Vs Growlers: Why Crowlers Are Taking Over, Does Craft Beer Expire? And it is very sweet with just a touch of tartness from the sour beer base. Blackberries are typically one of my least favorite fruits but this beer just changed my mind. There are no bells and whistles here, just pure, unfussy crushability.

. Pale Ale Vs IPA: Is There Really A Difference?

We tried this for the first time as it turned up in our Mikkeller Beer Club subscription box at the beginning of 2019 – you can sign up for 50% off your first box here. The Orange County, Calif., upstart embodies everything I love about beer—fun graphic design, immensely crushable brews, a lightheartedness that seems to come naturally—and none of the eye-rolling negativity.

Not only did two of America’s most well-known and well-loved breweries get sold—Delaware’s Dogfish Head for $300 million to Boston Beer Co. But this beer’s balance of crackling tartness and svelt grace made it stand out. 450 North Slushy XL Rainbow Popsicle, Fat Head’s Strange Magic, Grainworks poundsign nofilter, MadTree Blackberry Cobbler Shade, MadTree Naysayer, New Holland Ichabod, Rivertown Pumpkin Ale, Sam Adams Kosmic Sour, Streetside #blessed. It Should Be So Much More Than A Bar.

I don’t typically like saisons and this is in my top 10 beers of 2019… that’s how good it is.

This Berliner Weisse is loaded with blueberries, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar. As head-scratching as this all seems, it’s entirely indicative of an increasingly cutthroat beer market.

Sweet and very tart with an insane amount of pulpy fruit in the beer.

It turns out we really like raspberries, huh? Once again, after sampling hundreds of bottles, cans, drafts, and tasting pours at breweries, bars, restaurants, and festivals throughout the country, we have collected a smattering of our very favorite new American beers released in 2019. Inevitably, many are available only in certain markets in limited batches, but each represents one of the many reasons you can’t keep good craft brewing down.

Syrup and cinnamon are the dominate flavors and mimic French Toast in a beautiful way. The typical caveats apply – the list only includes beers we’ve actually tried, beers we purchased in 2019 (nothing we’ve had stored away in the cellar – and by cellar, I mean back of the wardrobe), and beers we acquired within the UK/Ireland. This Imperial Stout reminds me of why I fell in love with craft beer.

Then the flavor brings rich roast and bold coffee. Style: Imperial stout, 15% ABVBrewery Location: Asheville, N.C.I’m skeptical of beers fortified with umpteen ingredients—a dash of nutmeg here, a sprinkle of chipotle there—often assuming the add-ons are meant to hide a flaw or mask a brewery’s ineptitude.

Imperial Grind has the same sweet, bold flavor you’d get from a strong cup of cold brew coffee.

It’s a best-in-class example of a juice bomb / hazy banger / insert-buzz-word here. This beer tastes and smells like you’d be as likely to get high from it as you would drunk – and is that Pepé Le Pew with a hop-cone for a tail on the can?! The base beer, Allagash’s already excellent tripel, is aged in bourbon barrels for almost two months before it’s blended with Ethiopian cold brew coffee from fellow Mainers Speckled Ax roasters. This Slushmallow takes all the great flavor of dark, rich black cherry to make a thick, decadent beer. Honorable Mentions: 2nd Shift Black Noise, Big Boss New Guy NEIPA, Brasserie de Silly Stupid Silly Sour, Destihl Deadhead IPA: Extended Jam, Fifty West Alone Unkown, Listermann BA Port Cincinnatus, Narrow Gauge OJ Run, Odd13 Codename: Superfan, Rivertown Sprinkale. You can also connect with me on Untappd.

This is a classic. While the high ABV is evident, there’s also lots of sweet syrup and deep oak and barrel flavors. Dark chocolate and a firm roast are the highlights with the ABV providing a warming sensation. It’s that time of year again when we look back at the best beers we tried over the last 12 months. Tons of Belgian yeast character and a peppery finish makes Tank 7 continually interesting.

It reminds me of cold brew coffee. Honorable Mentions: Fifty West Brewing The Married Life, Listermann Brewing Coffee Birthday Cake Chickow!, Melvin Brewing Barrel-Aged Ruckus, Odd Side Ales Sweet Potato Souffle Rye, Rhinegiest Brewery Night Whale, Shulz Brau Dopplebock, Warped Wing Whiskey Rebellion. With that much fruit, this is considerably more sweet than tart. White stouts are always fun and Dragon’s Milk White takes it to the next level with barrel-aging. Sure, it incorporates a litany of ingredients: cocoa nibs from local Asheville chocolatiers French Broad Chocolates, whole vanilla beans from Tahiti, a Vietnamese cinnamon variety, and sea salt smoked over maple.

Style: Smoked dark lager, 7% ABVBrewery Location: Newcastle, MaineOn the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Nebo is this dark and smoky lager from Maine’s perennially excellent Oxbow Brewing. This is a beer I won’t ever forget!

It’s not going to be a beer you can pick up easily, unfortunately – we tried it at Cloudwater’s Friends & Family & Beer 2019 and we’re looking forward to seeing what surprises Mikkeller have in store for this year’s festival. Sharp, moderate bitterness is rounded by a silky soft body and a thoroughly modern hop bill of Idaho 7, Mosaic, and Cashmere for notes of juicy tropical fruit and citrus. Traditional yet modern; complex yet bold.
";s:7:"keyword";s:21:"best craft beers 2019";s:5:"links";s:2706:"East Bay Crab House Menu,
